CROWD MANAGEMENT

“Crowd management is the systematic planning and proactive implementation of the spatial organisation of large gatherings of people on the basis of continual monitoring and analysis of human movement and group dynamics with the objective of security, the protection and the preservation of the well being of all those present and participants.” Definition John J. Fruin (1993).

This concerns not only the fulfilment of the official requirements, but human beings and their behaviour are the focus of attention within the planning. Crowd management measures, concepts and security conception are developed accordingly.

Why Crowd Management?

Many educational and training programmes have a technical background (Master of event technology). This training does not include though the central theme of crowd management. Crowd management adopts a systematic and combines mathematical elements, physical aspects psychology and the behaviour of the visitor in order to achieve clear results. Findings from crowd management help to make positive experience with crowds, guarantee security and protection and also to manage risks.

In applying this, partially through the preventative approach, avoiding high crowd density, masses of people can be managed. Crowd management is not only suitable for events but also for any type of gathering of people.
